Researchers Outline New Recycling Route for GFRP Waste
Researchers from CETMA and Cormatex have outlined a proposed route for turning glass-fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) waste into panel products with characteristics comparable in concept to MDF-type boards.
The process combines airlay, thermobonding and compression moulding. It is intended to provide an alternative destination for certain glass-fibre composite waste streams as manufacturers seek routes beyond landfill, incineration and low-grade filler use.
The approach is described in an article by CETMA and Cormatex contributors in issue 171 of JEC Composites Magazine. The public summary does not establish commercial production volumes or verified economics, so industrial-scale performance remains to be assessed.
