nlcomp Launches rTurbine Demonstrator Using Recyclable Thermoplastic Composites

Italian composite specialist Northern Light Composites (nlcomp) has launched rTurbine, a demonstration project intended to develop and install a vertical-axis wind turbine made with the company’s recyclable thermoplastic rComposite material and integrated photovoltaic technology. The project aims to assess the material’s suitability for small wind turbines, where fatigue, weathering and ultraviolet exposure are key engineering considerations. It follows earlier work on recyclable blades combining different reinforcement fibres with a thermoplastic matrix. The initiative is co-funded through a European Union and Friuli Venezia Giulia regional programme. Performance and end-of-life recovery benefits remain project objectives pending demonstration.
