SHD Prepreg Supports Hand-Built Carbon-Fibre Automotive Components
SHD Composites has detailed a collaboration with AGN Composites and Dissident Automotive to manufacture hand-built carbon-fibre aftermarket parts for Porsche 911 and 718 vehicles in the United Kingdom.
The project uses SHD’s MTC510-1 hot-melt prepreg system for visible composite components, including exterior trim and aerodynamic parts. According to the companies, the material was selected to combine clear surface appearance with predictable handling and drape over complex moulds. SHD and AGN also worked on lay-up and processing parameters to support repeatable production.
The case highlights an important material-selection trade-off: cosmetic carbon-fibre parts must meet visual requirements without making production unnecessarily difficult or costly. The announcement describes a commercial application and supplier-reported results, rather than a controlled comparative study. It does not establish that the same prepreg is suitable for unrelated structural or high-temperature applications.
